We have trained thousands of runners over the last 15+ years. Eighty-five percent (85%) of new ERC participants have never run more than a block or two before they start with us. However, 99%+ of ERC runners who complete our training program and start their race complete it successfully.

The Elijah Running Club offers results-driven race training and fitness programs using a faith-based curriculum.  These programs will provide you with the tools and techniques needed to successfully complete a race and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.  The programs consist of a perfect blend of online class instruction (New), short runs, long endurance runs, cross-training and rest.  This combination of activity will help reduce the risk of injury, stress and fatigue while boosting your enjoyment of physical activity.

We currently offer a comprehensive half-marathon training program.

ERC 5K/10K Race Training Program

This 5-month race training program is designed for individuals who want to stay fit and active in the world of road racing with short and fun competitive distance races.  This is  the perfect introductory distance for novice racers, as well as a challenging test of strength and speed for the most competitive runners. Please Note: This Program has not been scheduled for 2017.

Training Program

This 10-week race training program is designed for individuals who are looking to take their current fitness regimen to the next level. This is a great program for an intermediate runner who’s “tasted” the 5k/10k distances and is ready to tackle this 13.1 road race.

ERC Marathon Training Program

The marathon distance of 26.2 miles is the crown jewel of distance running. This 8-month race training program is designed for individuals who are consistently active and ready to commit to the discipline and sacrifice it takes to prepare for this extended road race. Please Note: This Program has not been scheduled for 2017.

Training Modules

We have discovered that running the race of life demands proper training and instruction. Therefore, we offer a 2-part Training Program. There is an Online class module (NEW- focusing on run foundations) and an outdoor class module (run activations).

Part I — Indoor Class Module

Part I of the Training Program consists of 8 weeks of Online educational sessions designed to properly equip you for your running journey. Classes are scheduled twice a week on Tuesdays & Saturdays.Extended classes & clinics will be announced prior.

  • Nutrition Education & Meal Planning
  • Gear Preparation & Shoe Clinic
  • Strength Training & Conditioning
  • Running Techniques
  • And Much, Much, More!

Online Educational Sessions will be held Tuesdays & Saturdays, time is to be announced.

Part II- Outdoor Class Module

Just as no one in school gets promoted without passing a test, we believe that this outdoor class module makes our athletes activate their faith by doing what they have been taught. This level of follow-through is essential to producing the great testimonies and success stories we regularly receive from our alumni.

Part II of the Training Program will focus on Group Training Runs consisting of long runs, sports nutrition and pacing strategies.

  • Group long runs will always meet early on Saturdays mornings, mostly on Chicago's Lakefront.
  • Group long runs will have distances that gradually increase each month.
  • Hydration & sports nutrition planning & coaching provided for all long runs. Cross-training is strongly encouraged throughout the week.
  • Runners are expected to do 2 short runs on their own during the week to maintain endurance & stamina.

Group Training Runs will be held along Chicago’s Lakefront path.
